The Delhi regional round of UpStart 2026, IIT Kanpur's flagship national startup competition, takes place today, 10 October 2026 — while registrations for the Bengaluru and Hyderabad rounds (24 October) close on 14 October 2026, and the Mumbai round (5 December) closes on 26 November 2026.

Launched by Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kanpur on 15 August, UpStart works less like a conventional pitch contest and more like an intensive business-model incubator: startups go through multiple screening rounds that double as brainstorming sessions and face-to-face mentoring with a panel of experts, with the national finale on 23 January 2027 at IIT Kanpur.

The competition offers a prize pool of up to ₹18 lakh, alongside potential funding, incubation and industry access. Early-stage startups across fintech, healthtech, deeptech, Web3 and cybersecurity can apply, with finalists receiving multi-week mentorship before the finale.

Unlike ten-minute pitch formats, UpStart's structure rewards founders who can iterate — the screening rounds themselves function as product and business-model refinement.

Why it matters for founders

UpStart is one of the few national competitions that mentors you into shape rather than just scoring you. If you're an early-stage founder in Bengaluru or Hyderabad, apply by 14 October 2026 — the weeks of structured mentoring alone are worth the application.
