Ideaspring Capital is a Bengaluru-based early-stage venture capital firm founded in 2016 by Managing Partner Naganand Doraswamy. The firm leads investments in early-stage science and technology startups building global enterprise products from India, and has operated continuously for a decade — it marked ten years in in April 2026 with a note that it was backing deep tech before the category became fashionable.
Investment thesis
Ideaspring funds product companies, not services: the test is whether the start-up's IP — in the form of algorithms or technology — is the key differentiator. It looks for founders with genuine depth of domain knowledge, whether that comes from previous start-up work, corporate experience, or research in collaboration with institutes. Its founding credo is that Indian entrepreneurs must think global from day one, since product companies built in India face discovery, access and go-to-market challenges in key client markets. The firm takes a high-touch approach and aims to help each portfolio company reach its next round of funding within about 18 months of the association.
Sectors and stages
The fund invests at seed and pre-Series A/Series A. Its current stated focus areas are Climate Tech, Artificial Intelligence, Defence, BioTech, Enterprise and Deep Tech. At launch, the target universe was described as machine learning and deep learning, computer vision and image processing, big data analytics, internet of things, augmented and virtual reality, health-tech and fin-tech.
Fund size and cheque sizes
Ideaspring was floated with a targeted corpus of ₹125 crore (around $18.8 million at the time), anchored by Aarin Capital, with an initial first close of ₹90 crore. The design split the corpus into an initial ₹50 crore seed pool and a further ₹50 crore reserved for pre-Series A or Series A rounds, with the remainder as buffer. The firm invests up to about ₹3 crore (roughly $450,000) in seed rounds that should last a company 12–18 months, and up to about ₹5 crore (roughly $750,000) in pre-Series A/Series A rounds as a co-investor. The stated pace is four to six early-stage deals a year.
Notable portfolio
The firm's own site highlights investments including Tvaster Genkalp and BluJ Aero, each the subject of a “why we invested” note from the investment team.
Partners and team
Naganand Doraswamy is the Managing Partner and founder (ex-Span Infotech, former president of TiE Bengaluru). The founding partner group included Prashant Deshpande, Arihant Patni, Amit Patni, T. V. Mohandas Pai, Rajiv Mody and Rajan Pai, with Suryaprakash Konanuru serving as CTO.
Programs, accelerators and credits
At launch the firm described a high-touch Startup Assist programme for its four-to-six annual investee companies. No separate accelerator is publicly advertised today, and no founder credits or perks programme is publicly documented.
Why it matters for founders
If you are building an IP-led deep-tech or enterprise product in India and want a lead seed investor that thinks global from day one, Ideaspring is designed for exactly that lane: ₹3-crore seed cheques, a clear 18-month runway to the next round, and a partner set drawn from India's product-entrepreneur community.
