Pune's deep-tech ecosystem had its moment this week as Gyrodrive Machineries Private Limited was declared the winner of the Startup World Cup Pune Regional 2026, hosted by BE Hub in partnership with Pegasus Tech Ventures / Startup World Cup at the Sheraton Grand Pune on September 29.

More than 50 startups registered for the competition, with over 100 curated attendees — founders, investors, VCs, corporate leaders and mentors — watching the finalists pitch before an experienced jury. Gyrodrive, which is developing magnet-free, high-efficiency electric motor solutions for industrial and mobility applications, emerged on top and will now represent Pune at the Grand Finale in San Francisco, USA.

The Startup World Cup, organised by Pegasus Tech Ventures, is a global startup competition connecting regional competitions across countries with its San Francisco grand finale. A win there puts the champion in front of global investors and corporate partners.

Gyrodrive's magnet-free motor approach targets one of the EV industry's biggest dependencies — rare-earth magnets — positioning the company at the intersection of sustainability, supply-chain resilience and industrial performance, themes that have been drawing serious investor attention this year.

Why it matters for founders

Regional pitch competitions remain one of the cheapest routes to global investor visibility. Gyrodrive's win shows deep-tech hardware from Tier-1 Indian cities can punch through — if your technology solves a real supply-chain or sustainability problem, these platforms will find you an audience in San Francisco.
