The firm
Founded in 2006 by Alan Patricof, Dana Settle and Ian Sigalow, Greycroft is a seed-to-growth venture capital firm headquartered in New York City, Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. Patricof had previously founded Apax Partners; Settle and Sigalow brought consumer and enterprise deal-making firepower. The firm has raised more than $3 billion in capital and made over 400 investments since inception.
Thesis and sectors
Greycroft invests across intelligent consumer and enterprise applications, AI infrastructure, sustainability and consumer brands — from foundational AI models to beauty and personal care. It targets investments from $500K up to $50 million in early-stage and high-growth companies, with a team of more than 40 professionals across New York and Los Angeles. It is famously syndicate-friendly: Greycroft says it has no minimum ownership threshold and no board-seat requirement, making room for seed funds and co-investors that other firms crowd out.
Funds
In 2023 Greycroft raised over $1 billion in new funds across Greycroft Partners VII and Greycroft Growth IV. The same year, The Coca-Cola Company and eight bottling partners partnered with Greycroft on a $137.7 million sustainability-focused fund targeting packaging and decarbonisation. Earlier vehicles grew from Greycroft I at $75 million (2006) to Greycroft VI at $310 million (2020).
Landmark portfolio wins
Notable investments include Bumble, Venmo, HuffPost, The RealReal (which IPO'd in 2019), Scopely, Whatnot, Goop, Bird, Shipt and Maker Studios (acquired by Disney for $950 million). Early exits included Braintree and Buddy Media, each acquired for $800 million. Current AI-era bets include Applied Intuition, Anduril, OpenEvidence, Together AI, Stability AI and Contextual AI.
Partners
The firm is led by co-founders and managing partners Alan Patricof, Dana Settle and Ian Sigalow, alongside partners including Marcie Vu, Mark Terbeek, John Elton, Katherine Power and Chiraag Deora. Settle has championed diversity as strategy: nearly 50% of Greycroft's portfolio companies were founded by women or underrepresented groups.
What founders get
Greycroft offers an operator-heavy platform team for business development and recruiting, plus an annual Consumer Brands Summit that connects founders with brands and retailers. Its bicoastal media-and-tech network — "offices in the two media capitals of the world, New York and Los Angeles" — helps consumer and media startups gain visibility and strategic relationships.
Why it matters for founders
Greycroft is unusually founder-friendly for a firm of its size: no ownership thresholds, syndicate-friendly rounds, and seed-to-growth cheques in one relationship. If you are a consumer, media or AI infrastructure founder — especially one looking at New York or LA — Greycroft's $1B+ in fresh 2023 capital and its track record from HuffPost to Whatnot make it a first call.
