Google for Startups Cloud Program is Google Cloud's comprehensive startup initiative, offering some of the largest cloud credit packages available — particularly for AI-first companies. The program is global; Indian founders apply through the same process as everyone else, and Google itself matches applicants to the appropriate tier rather than letting them choose. This curation ensures startups get the right level of support for their stage.

The program operates in two tiers. The Start tier offers up to $2,000 USD in Google Cloud credits, valid for one year. Eligibility targets very early startups: you must be a technology startup planning to seek venture funding soon, founded within the last 24 months, not yet having received Google Cloud credits beyond the free trial, and be digital-native with a working MVP, clear business model, and defined product roadmap. This tier is ideal for founders who have built an MVP and are preparing to raise.

The Scale tier is where the program becomes truly substantial: up to $200,000 USD in total credits, rising to $350,000 USD for AI-first startups. The disbursement is structured over two years — Year 1: 100% coverage up to $100,000 (up to $250,000 for AI-first); Year 2: 20% coverage up to an additional $100,000. Credits cover Google's own AI models including Gemini and Gemma, making this particularly valuable for startups building on Google's AI stack. Note that third-party models are billed directly and not covered by credits.

Scale tier eligibility requires having raised Pre-Seed or Seed within the last 5 years, or Series A within the last 12 months, from an institutional investor. SAFEs qualify; token raises and blockchain foundation grants are accepted for Web3 companies. The startup must have been founded within the last 5 years. Importantly, PE funding, government grants, prize money, crowdfunding, angel, and friends-and-family funding do not qualify for Scale — it is specifically for institutionally-backed startups. Excluded categories include IPO'd or acquired companies, educational institutions, government entities, nonprofits, personal blogs, dev shops and agencies, crypto miners, and token distributors. Acceptance is at Google's discretion.

Beyond credits, the program is rich with perks. Startups receive $200–$500 in Google Skills training credits, Google Workspace Business Plus free for 12 months (for new signups), $600/month in Google Maps Platform credits (via separate application), up to $12,000 in Google Cloud Enhanced Support credits for one year (with one-hour response for critical issues), plus a dedicated Startup Success Manager, Startup Customer Engineers, AI-focused webinars and content, and Web3 partner perks.

Applications run through the official Google for Startups Cloud Program page. Google reviews each application and assigns the tier — founders do not self-select.

Why it matters for founders

If you are building on Google Cloud — especially an AI-first startup — the Scale tier's $350,000 in credits over two years is among the largest non-dilutive cloud offers in the industry. Even pre-funding startups with an MVP can access the $2,000 Start tier. The Gemini/Gemma model credits, Workspace, and Enhanced Support add further value. Apply directly; Google will match you to the right tier based on your funding and stage.
