Ex-Fundamentum cofounder Ashish Kumar's new firm Fundamentum Frontier Advisors (F2A) has marked the first close of its growth-stage AI and deeptech fund at Rs 3,000 crore, calling it India's largest fund dedicated to the sector.

The firm's limited partners have already approved raising the corpus further to Rs 3,500 crore, citing investor demand beyond the current capacity. The fund has raised capital from both domestic and overseas investors and will be split across two vehicles.

F2A plans to deploy the money into 12-15 companies over the next 2-3 years, writing cheques of Rs 100-200 crore each, and says it is in advanced stages of closing three investments within the coming quarter. The strategy targets three areas: consumer businesses leveraging AI and frontier technologies, enterprise software, and deeptech infrastructure and engineered systems, with a focus on India-domiciled companies earning revenue in India and globally.

The general partners are Ashish Kumar, Debraj Banerjee and Vivek Singla, with Fundamentum's former general partner Nandan Nilekani as the anchor investor. The firm is a separate legal entity from Fundamentum Partnership, which itself launched its third fund this year with a Rs 2,200 crore target corpus.

The timing fits a hot cycle: deeptech funding nearly tripled to $290 million across 28 deals in the quarter ending September 2026, up from $105 million across 29 deals a year earlier, according to Inc42's Q3 2026 funding report.

Why it matters for founders

Growth-stage deeptech founders now have India's biggest dedicated AI/deeptech pool to pitch — F2A wants companies past technology validation with customers starting to scale, and three deals are already in advanced talks. If your deeptech startup has real traction, this is a new door at Rs 100-200 crore cheque sizes.
