Frontline Ventures is the venture firm for founders thinking across the Atlantic. Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Dublin — with offices in London, Palo Alto and New York — Frontline backs B2B technology companies in the US and Europe, specialising in the hardest part of scaling: transatlantic expansion.
Two funds, one team
Frontline operates through two funds but as one team: Frontline Seed invests at pre-seed and seed in B2B European startups, while Frontline Growth invests at Series B through Series D in US companies expanding into Europe. The firm's focus sectors are enterprise AI, SaaS, enterprise software, fintech, developer tools and healthtech, and it has backed over 120 companies across both funds.
Fund size
Frontline's first fund of €50m closed in 2013, followed by a €60m Fund II in 2017 backed by the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund, Enterprise Ireland, the European Investment Fund and Allied Irish Banks. In February 2021 it announced a £61.3m Seed Fund III for European B2B founders; in March 2020 it launched Frontline X, a $70m growth-stage fund for fast US-to-Europe expansion. Total funds under management reached €250m in 2021.
Partners
The firm was founded by partners Shay Garvey, Will Prendergast, William McQuillan and Stephen McIntyre — the latter having previously set up Twitter's European headquarters as its Vice President of EMEA after running a substantial part of Google's ads business. The partnership blends first-hand entrepreneurial and operating experience with venture investing, which is the basis of its expansion playbook.
Notable portfolio and exits
Frontline's exits include Pointy (acquired by Google), Logentries (acquired by Rapid7), Britebill (acquired by Amdocs) and Orchestrate.io (acquired by CenturyLink). Its growth fund backed names such as TripActions, People.ai and Clearbanc in their expansion rounds. Its edge is the US Playbook — a practical guide to US expansion drawn from its founders' experience — plus the "At the Front Line" hub of startup resources.
Cheque sizes and founder support
Frontline Seed typically writes cheques of €200,000 to €3m, while Frontline Growth invests up to $5m alongside lead investors in later-stage rounds. Beyond capital, the firm's proposition is operational: its partners and network are built around the unglamorous mechanics of expansion — hiring, go-to-market and local talent networks — which is why Ireland, a proven landing point for US tech companies entering Europe, features so heavily in its strategy.
Why it matters for founders
Frontline is the natural choice for two kinds of founders: European B2B startups with ambitions to sell into the US, and US B2B companies (Series B+) planning a European beachhead — with Ireland often the landing point. Few funds combine operators who have run Google and Twitter's European businesses with a dedicated transatlantic playbook. Pitch if your roadmap crosses the Atlantic.
