Startup funding in India is warming to clinical-grade consumer brands: Bengaluru-based skincare startup Formial Labs has raised ₹2.88 crore in a pre-seed funding round led by Zeropearl VC, The Economic Times reported on October 15, 2026.

The round also saw participation from angel investors including Aarti Gill, founder of OZiva and Giga Capital; Arvind Radhakrishnan, Director of Partnerships at Social Alpha; and Sushil Selvarajan, Ashok Ray Chaudhury, Shekhar Neema and Dipti Thakur.

Prescription skincare, delivered digitally

Founded by Jeet Patel, Formial Labs combines clinical diagnosis, scientifically developed formulations and continuous follow-up in an accessible digital model. The startup targets skin concerns such as acne, pigmentation, scarring and melasma — conditions that need sustained treatment rather than one-size-fits-all products, but where access to personalised dermatological care remains difficult for most consumers. The fresh capital will expand its clinical team and consultation capacity, and strengthen its technology for diagnosis, personalisation and follow-up.

Why investors backed it

Bipin Shah, Founder and Managing Partner at Zeropearl VC, said Indian consumers are becoming outcome-oriented and ingredient-conscious, yet finding the right treatment for acne, pigmentation and wrinkles remains a challenge. What impressed the fund, he said, was the founder's science-led approach, focus on quality — and a 4x repeat rate achieved in under two years, a strong signal in a category where trust drives retention. Zeropearl believes Formial can build an AI-first, trusted business in India's growing result-oriented skincare market.

Why it matters for founders

Formial Labs shows that in crowded D2C categories, clinical credibility plus real retention data still commands early cheques. A 4x repeat rate before raising institutional capital is the metric doing the heavy lifting here — founders pitching in competitive consumer segments should lead with repeat behaviour, not just growth.
