FITT — the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (fitt-iitd.in) is IIT Delhi's industry-interface organisation: a registered society established on 9 July 1992 that manages technology commercialisation, intellectual property, the institute's incubator programme and its Research & Innovation Park. For lab-to-market deep tech coming out of IIT Delhi, FITT is the front door.
Scale
Its official homepage reports 2,100+ industry collaborations, 1,618+ IPR filings (including 1,300+ patents), 185+ technology transfers, 150+ start-ups incubated, 600+ development projects and 500+ training programmes. The current start-up community skews heavily technical: 44% bio-tech, 44% health-tech, 36% electronics & telecom, with the balance across engineering, design, software and power systems.
Programmes
FITT runs the institute incubator programme plus dedicated Government Programmes and Corporate Programmes tracks. It anchors central schemes on campus including TIDE (Technological Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs) and the BIRAC BIG scheme — which offers techno-preneurship support of up to Rs 25 lakhs during incubation. Corporate open-innovation tracks include the SONA-COMSTAR–IIT Delhi Innovation Program for smart, safe and clean mobility and the JICA Transport Stack Open Innovation Challenge. Its annual FITT Forward technology showcase (2025 and 2026 editions) has drawn partners including IIFL Capital, the HS Foundation, Microsoft, HDFC Bank and HSBC.
Fund size
As an institute interface body, its corpus is not publicly disclosed.
FITT's programme architecture mirrors its dual mandate. The incubator programme serves IIT Delhi spinouts and external deep-tech ventures; the Government Programmes track anchors central schemes — TIDE and BIRAC BIG (up to Rs 25 lakhs in techno-preneurship support during incubation) — on campus; and the Corporate Programmes track converts industry problems into start-up opportunities, as with the SONA-COMSTAR–IIT Delhi Innovation Program for smart, safe and clean mobility and the JICA Transport Stack Open Innovation Challenge.
The annual FITT Forward showcase has become the centre's public face: the 2025 and 2026 editions drew partners including IIFL Capital, the HS Foundation, Microsoft, HDFC Bank, HSBC and Singhania & Co., with stakeholders spanning MeitY, DST and BIRAC. For founders, it doubles as a scouting ground — the start-up community on display skews 44% bio-tech and 44% health-tech, a concentration few Indian showcases can match.
Why it matters for founders
If you are commercialising research — especially with an IIT Delhi connection — FITT bundles three things that are painful to assemble separately: IP and tech-transfer machinery, BIRAC/MietY grant pipelines, and corporate open-innovation programmes that can become your first customers. FITT Forward is worth attending even before you apply.
