India's festive shopping season is off to a roaring start: e-commerce platforms sold goods worth an estimated Rs 24,000 crore in just the first two days of the festive sale, according to Redseer Strategy Consultants, as reported by PTI.

Shoppers placed roughly 8–9 crore orders across platforms including Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho and Ajio. Mobile phones accounted for the biggest share in value terms, but the more interesting signal for founders is breadth: Nikhil Dalal, Associate Partner at Redseer, noted that growth is being led by order volumes, with consumers spreading spend beyond mobiles into fashion, electronics and appliances — the festive basket is getting wider.

For D2C and quick-commerce startups, the data validates a thesis that has been building all year: demand is no longer concentrated in a handful of categories or the top metros. Rising order volumes rather than average-order-value inflation are driving the surge, which favours brands with affordable price points, strong quick-commerce presence and regional-language discovery — exactly the playbook of this year's newly funded consumer startups.

Why it matters for founders

Rs 24,000 crore in 48 hours is the clearest demand signal of the year for consumer founders. If your brand sells under Rs 1,000 and moves on quick commerce, the festive window is your highest-ROI distribution bet — but inventory, dark-store placement and ad budgets must be locked weeks ahead, not during the sale.
