Swipe-based trivia and puzzle app dubdub has raised $1.3 million in an equity seed round led by 3one4 Capital, Antler and Stellaris Venture Partners. The round was announced on 28 October 2026, in a week when startup funding in India has favoured consumer apps with early retention proof.
Launched in March 2026, dubdub replaces the passive content feed with questions and mini-games: each swipe asks users to answer, guess, solve, recognise, predict or compete. Content spans more than 20 categories, including cricket, Bollywood, pop culture, general knowledge, mythology and logical reasoning, with AI and user interactions tailoring challenges to individual interests.
The app has crossed 20,000 downloads and reports early retention above the top percentile of casual games, according to the company. CEO and co-founder Kaustubh Priye, who has built and sold a company before, said retention is the clearest signal that a product is working — and that dubdub's early numbers show users returning because the experience is genuinely enjoyable, not merely because it sits in their feed.
The funds will be used to hire across product and engineering, add new interactive formats and deepen personalisation of the feed. Social features let users challenge friends, compare scores and add a competitive layer to the experience.
For consumer founders, dubdub is a reminder that the feed is not the only format. Turning scrolling into participation — a question per swipe — is a small interaction change with a large retention consequence, and investors funded the retention, not the novelty.
Why it matters for founders
In consumer apps, retention is the pitch. Downloads are cheap to buy and easy to celebrate; returning users are the metric that earns a seed round — measure it honestly, and build the loop that creates it.
