A serial unicorn-maker is back in the game: Different, the AI-powered martech startup founded by Nutanix and ThoughtSpot co-founder Ajeet Singh, has emerged from stealth with a $48 million (nearly ₹453 crore) seed funding round led by General Catalyst.

The round also saw participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Together Fund, Haystack Ventures, MXV Capital and Firebolt Ventures, Inc42 reported on 22 October 2026.

This is Singh's third venture. He co-founded hybrid-cloud unicorn Nutanix in 2009 — which listed on Nasdaq in 2016 — then left in 2012 to launch AI analytics unicorn ThoughtSpot, which has raised over $670 million to date. Joining him as co-founders are former Asana executive Abhishek Pani as chief product officer and former PharmEasy chief technology and product officer Abhinav Yajurvedi as chief technology officer.

Different builds what Singh calls "an AI marketing system that runs demand generation end-to-end for lean B2B marketing teams". Marketers set the strategy and approve the work; the platform plans campaigns, builds buyer journeys, creates and launches ads, emails and landing pages, tailors messages per account, and shifts spend toward what is working — with a human marketer reviewing everything before it goes live.

The startup, with teams in San Francisco and Bengaluru, tested its services with early corporate customers including software firms Descope and Motif before its public launch on 20 October. "We built Different so a marketing team of five can do the work of 50," Singh said.

The company will use the funding to grow its engineering and go-to-market teams as it attacks the crowded AI-assisted marketing software market — betting that smaller B2B teams will pay for coordinated campaign orchestration rather than point tools.

Why it matters for founders

A $48M seed is a founder-market-fit premium: two unicorns on the résumé buy conviction. For everyone else, Different's lesson is sharper — sell the closed loop (plan, launch, measure, re-optimise), not the single feature.
