Swiss testing, inspection and certification (TIC) giant Cotecna has acquired Hyderabad-based analytical testing laboratory Energon Labs, the company announced on October 16, 2026. The deal strengthens Cotecna’s global life-sciences platform and marks another cross-border bet on India’s pharmaceutical ecosystem — a segment that keeps drawing capital as startup funding in India matures.
Energon Labs is a cGMP-compliant, USFDA-inspected laboratory certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 standards. Based in Hyderabad — one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology hubs — it serves customers across India, the United States, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East in the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, medical device and packaging sectors.
The acquisition adds to Cotecna’s growing pharmaceutical testing network, which includes Cotecna Life Sciences, Shiva Analyticals and Neotron Pharma. Cotecna Group CEO Sébastien Dannaud called the deal “an important step towards the company’s ambition of becoming one of the largest providers of life sciences testing services in India,” adding that it “strengthens our position in one of the world’s most important pharmaceutical markets.”
Telangana Today reported the acquisition on October 17. No financial terms were disclosed in the announcement. The company said adding Energon would improve responsiveness, scalability and operational efficiency for Indian and international customers needing regulatory-compliant testing services.
Why it matters for founders
Global TIC consolidation is rolling through Indian labs — certifications like USFDA inspection and ISO 17025 are what make a small Hyderabad lab a cross-border acquisition target. Founders in pharma services should treat compliance credentials as their exit currency.
