The firm
Blue Ashva Capital is a Singapore and India-headquartered investment firm founded in 2018 by Satya Bansal — former Chief Executive of Barclays Private Bank in India and a founding member of the ICICI Direct team. Satya grew up 80km north of Jaipur, Rajasthan, where "life was defined by Core Needs" — and that origin story runs through the firm's DNA. Blue Ashva hunts for what it calls "Blue Horses": companies built at the intersection of breakthrough science and market reality. Blue means disruptive and bold; Ashva (Sanskrit for horse) means agile, perseverant and tangible.
Thesis and sweet spot
The thesis: the world's most urgent challenges — energy transition, food security, climate change, economic mobility — are not philanthropic causes but the greatest untapped investment opportunities of our time. Blue Ashva finds, invests in and scales businesses that refuse to choose between profitability and impact.
Its sectors of excitement sit at the intersection of deep technology and planetary impact: energy efficiency, spacetech, energy storage, desalination, cellular agriculture, effluent treatment, carbon capture and utilisation, waste-to-value, battery cell technology, healthcare, fintech, sustainable foods, carbon-negative chemicals, alternative fuels, sustainable materials and regenerative agriculture. It also backs SMEs and startups in food and agri, energy and environment, health and wellness, and money and finance — patient, long-term capital for businesses neglected by mainstream VC.
Fund size
Its maiden Blue Ashva Sampada Fund — a SEBI-registered Category II AIF — held its initial close at Rs 454 crore (~$60 million) against a Rs 400 crore target with a Rs 200 crore greenshoe, backed by family offices and high-net-worth individuals. Typical cheques run Rs 25–30 crore at seed to Series A, deployed as equity, debt or a combination. The platform has since grown into a multi-asset investment house allocating around $1 billion across venture and growth equity, structured credit and public equities.
Notable portfolio
The portfolio spans climate and deep tech: Tan90 (cold-chain), Dhruva Space, GreenJoules ($4.5 million raised), Entuple, Bambrew (sustainable packaging), Godi, Devic Earth (Rs 10 crore pre-Series A) and Quick Clean ($14 million Series B).
What founders get beyond capital
Blue Ashva brings a partner ecosystem across Singapore, the US and Israel to bring global innovation to India, and runs Blue Ashva Labs — a deeptech incubator taking technologies from lab to market in areas like green hydrogen, pharma APIs, biotechnology and battery recycling. Its guiding principles are blunt and founder-friendly: innovation, viability (relentless pursuit of price parity), and scalability.
Why it matters for founders
If you are building deep tech for the planet — climate, energy, spacetech, agri, circular economy — Blue Ashva Capital is one of the few Indian funds that genuinely wants your kind of ambition: profitable, scalable, and solving a real core need.
