Startup funding in India is increasingly flowing to Indian-origin founders building global developer infrastructure, and Blacksmith just became the newest unicorn in that wave. The company has raised $66 million in a Series C round led by Sequoia Capital at a $1 billion valuation.

A $60 million company a year ago

The speed of the climb is the story. Blacksmith was valued at about $60 million after its $10 million Series A a year ago, then at $550 million after a $45 million Series B led by Peak XV Partners in August 2026. Two months later, the $1 billion Series C nearly doubles that mark again. Total funding now stands at $125 million.

What Blacksmith builds

Founded in 2024 by Aditya Jayaprakash, Aayush Shah and Aditya Maru, Blacksmith runs high-performance cloud runners for continuous integration (CI) — the automated builds and tests every code change must pass before it ships. Its pitch is that AI coding agents now write so much code that testing pipelines, not code-writing, are the bottleneck. The company says its annual recurring revenue has grown 17 times since the start of the year and that it has run more than 90 million CI jobs, with customers including Mercury and Granola.

Who joined the round

Sequoia Capital led the round, with Premji Invest joining as a new investor alongside returning backers Peak XV Partners, GV and Y Combinator. The company plans to grow its team and expand its compute footprint.

As CEO Aditya Jayaprakash put it, as agents write more of the world's software, the question that matters is whether it can be trusted — and Blacksmith wants to own the layer that answers it.

Why it matters for founders

Every gold rush reprices its tools. When AI makes one thing abundant — here, code — something downstream becomes scarce, and that scarcity is where pricing power moves. Find the bottleneck your customers cannot ignore, and growth can reprice your company in months, not years.
