Startup funding in India keeps flowing to deeptech on the factory floor: Tiruchirappalli-based AugurAI has raised Rs 2 crore from Campus Angels Network (CAN), the company announced on 30 October 2026. The entire round was funded by CAN investors.
Optics first, AI second
Founded in 2022 and incubated at Forge Innovation & Ventures and SASTRA First TBI, AugurAI builds precision optics and AI-powered visual inspection systems for industrial manufacturing. Its integrated solutions combine precision optics, imaging hardware, AI software and automation.
The company follows an optics-first approach: it engineers illumination, lenses and imaging to capture high-quality data before applying AI for defect detection and classification. It reports inspection accuracy of over 99.9% across live deployments, and has deployed solutions with industrial customers including JSW, ZF Rane and Brakes India.
AugurAI was also announced the winner of the Maruti Suzuki Incubation Program (Cohort 5), chosen from a pool of more than 570 startups. Founder and CEO Dr. Ravishankar Rajagopalan leads the company, and CAN managing director and CEO Chandran Krishnan described it as a precision optics company powered by AI, not simply another AI company.
Where the money goes
The fresh capital will be used to strengthen product development and research and development, expand sales and execution capabilities, and support the company's next phase of growth. AugurAI plans to deepen its precision optics and AI capabilities, expand its portfolio of inspection solutions and strengthen its presence across manufacturing sectors.
Why it matters for founders
AugurAI's raise is a template for hardware-adjacent founders: win a marquee corporate incubation programme, prove accuracy on live customer lines, then raise a focused round to scale sales. Technical proof with named customers beats pitch-deck promises every time.
