AI major Anthropic has expanded its ‘Claude Startups’ programme for early-stage founders — including AI-native businesses in India — offering members up to USD 7,000 in Claude products and credits, the company announced this week.
The package is structured to cut the two biggest costs for an AI startup: model spend and tooling. Members get a free year of Claude Team if they're new to Team, plus USD 1,000 in API credits as soon as they're approved. On top of that, Anthropic has introduced the ‘Claude Startup Stack’ — discounts and credits worth up to USD 45,000 across partner tools covering data engineering, product design and sales operations.
“Calling out to all startups in India. If you're building an AI-native company here, the Claude Startups programme just got bigger,” Anthropic India Managing Director Irina Ghose said in a LinkedIn post, adding that founders “founded in the last five years or funded in the last two” should apply. The programme's stated aim is to lower entry barriers and infrastructure costs for early-stage companies building AI applications.
Beyond credits, selected members get technical guidance through virtual office hours with Anthropic's Applied AI team, community access through networking initiatives and hackathons such as ‘Founder House’, and commercial distribution opportunities on the Claude Marketplace — the last of which is the sleeper benefit, since distribution is the harder half of every AI startup's problem.
The expansion lands as India's AI-native startup wave accelerates and model costs become a genuine line item for seed-stage teams. A $7,000 credit pool plus a $45,000 tooling stack won't fund a company — but it buys the most precious thing at the idea stage: months of runway to build before the first paid invoice.
Why it matters for founders
If you're building AI-native in India, this is free infrastructure with a brand attached. The credits matter, but the Applied AI office hours and Claude Marketplace distribution matter more — they're the kind of access money can't buy at seed stage. Eligibility is generous: founded in the last five years or funded in the last two. Apply, and ship.
