The firm
Alpha Wave Global is a global alternative asset manager founded in 2012, originally as Falcon Edge Capital, and rebranded as Alpha Wave in 2021. Led by Rick Gerson, Navroz Udwadia and Ryan Khoury, the firm today manages approximately $29 billion across three verticals — private equity, private credit and insurance & retirement solutions — with 11 offices across eight countries, including Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi, New York, Miami, London and Abu Dhabi.
Thesis and sweet spot
The flagship private equity strategy, Alpha Wave Ventures, states its mission plainly: to identify, access and invest in best-in-class power-law companies that are defining the AI era. The firm is a multi-stage operator — comfortable from early-stage venture through growth and late-stage, plus public markets — and deliberately flexible on mandate and duration, which lets it write big cheques and keep following on. The private credit arm originates senior secured loans in the US, EU and Australia, and the firm is launching an insurance business for contracted, tax-efficient returns. Sectors skew towards technology, AI, fintech and consumer — wherever the next power-law outcome might hide.
Notable portfolio
In India, Alpha Wave's rise was meteoric. Under the Falcon Edge banner it backed Ola, DailyHunt, Stanza Living and Bounce, emerging as one of the biggest engines of India's 2021 tech bull run. Recent activity keeps that pace: a $435 million cheque into Bharti Airtel's data-centre arm Nxtra Data (valuing it at about $3.1 billion, CCI-cleared) to fund AI-ready data centre expansion, and a strategic investment in packaged-foods giant Haldiram's alongside Abu Dhabi's IHC. The firm is also reported to be eyeing a $1.3 billion investment in Adani Airports with Temasek.
People
Rick Gerson co-founded the firm and chairs it, Navroz Udwadia — who led the India build-out — has been the face of the firm's India strategy, and Ryan Khoury is a fellow founding partner. Abu Dhabi linkages run deep: the firm is backed by interests connected to Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Abu Dhabi's Judan Financial acquired a stake in Alpha Wave in 2026.
Programs and perks
The standout founder program is Alpha Wave Incubation, a $300 million early-stage India and Southeast Asia fund anchored by Abu Dhabi's ADQ, which backed startups like Avail Finance, Entropik, Hippo Video and Verloop.io — and connected portfolio companies to Abu Dhabi as a second headquarters. Beyond that, the firm's value-add is hands-on operating support: the fund has historically built local teams covering product, strategy and hiring for portfolio companies. No public self-serve credit or perk program is announced.
Why it matters for founders
Alpha Wave is one of the few investors that can take you from seed to IPO-scale without changing partners — its mandate flexibility is genuine. For Indian founders, the firm's Abu Dhabi corridor is a genuine differentiator: capital, a Gulf expansion beachhead and deep-pocketed follow-on in one relationship. If your company could be a power-law outcome in AI, fintech or consumer, this is a door worth knocking on.
