Mexico's venture ecosystem has a founding father, and its name is ALLVP. Founded in 2012 by Federico Antoni and Fernando Lelo de Larrea, the firm was one of Mexico's first institutional venture funds — and, tellingly, its website today presents the firm under a new banner: Hi Ventures (hi.vc), "investing in Latin American startups with global ambitions."

Thesis: the region's rising middle class

ALLVP built its reputation as one of the most active Series A funds in Latin America. Its investment thesis goes deep into four sectors being reshaped across the region: FinTech, Future of Commerce, Human Capital and Smart Cities. The unifying bet: companies serving Latin America's large, underserved and growing middle class — transforming how people buy, move, interact with the financial system and learn.

Funds and check sizes

The firm manages more than $200 million across three funds. Its first fund backed twelve companies; a second fund closed in 2015 to consolidate its Series A position; and Fund III announced its first closing at $100 million in December 2018, continuing the Series A focus while pushing more decisively into Series B. Typical tickets run $5–10 million at seed and Series A.

Portfolio: exits that built the ecosystem

Across its portfolios, ALLVP has backed 35+ companies. The signature win is Cornershop, the on-demand grocery marketplace the firm backed from 2015 and which was acquired by Uber in 2021. Others on the roster include R2 (Latin American fintech), Fintual, Yana — the mental-health app that passed five million downloads — and Nuvocargo, the cross-border logistics platform operating in the US–Mexico trade corridor. Earlier names include Robinfood, Flink, weex, Alkanza, Carrot, Médica Santa Carmen and Prestadero.

Platform: h1 and the network

True to its roots — the founders also built Venture Institute, an entrepreneur-development platform — the firm runs h1, "the founder co-pilot to help you fundraise," offering automated pitch-deck feedback and fundraising guidance. It is a member of LAVCA, AMEXCAP and the Endeavor Investor Network. Specific credits or perks programmes are not publicly disclosed.

Why it matters for founders

If you're a Spanish-speaking Latin American founder raising seed or Series A in fintech, commerce, human capital or smart cities, ALLVP/Hi Ventures is the local institution — deep networks, real operating help, and a track record of carrying companies from first cheque to landmark exits. Try the h1 co-pilot before you pitch.
