Accel and Google's AI Futures Fund have unveiled five startups selected from 4,000+ applicants for the 2026 Atoms AI Cohort, announced on 1 October 2026. The five: K-Dense (an AI co-scientist), Dodge.ai (autonomous ERP/SAP agents), Persistence Labs (voice AI for call centres), Zingroll (AI-native entertainment) and LevelPlane (industrial automation for automotive and aerospace).
The package is substantial. Each selected startup gets up to $2 million in co-investment — split between Accel and the Google AI Futures Fund — plus up to $350,000 in compute credits across Google Cloud, Gemini and DeepMind. For early-stage AI teams, the compute credits alone can be the difference between shipping and stalling.
The programme is backed by Accel partners Prayank Swaroop and Shekhar Kirani, and it carries real alumni proof. The Atoms programme has backed 45+ startups, which have gone on to raise $300M+ in follow-on funding — a strong signal that selection is more than a logo on a slide.
The spread of the cohort is instructive: from AI co-scientists and voice agents to industrial automation, the selection favours applied AI with clear deployment surfaces rather than foundation-model moonshots. Dodge.ai's autonomous ERP/SAP agents and Persistence Labs' call-centre voice AI both point at big, legible enterprise pain points.
Getting picked from 4,000+ applicants also underscores how competitive the top of the funnel has become. For AI founders, the differentiator now is not the demo — it is distribution, a credible wedge into paying customers, and a story that partners like Swaroop and Kirani can carry into follow-on rounds.
Why it matters for founders
If you are building applied AI, programmes like Atoms are among the highest-leverage applications you can make: $2 million plus $350K in compute credits and a follow-on track record of $300M+ is serious fuel. Apply with a deployment story, not just a model — the cohort skew shows they reward founders who can name their first ten customers. Even shortlisting from a pool this competitive is a signal worth putting in your data room.
