For climate-tech founders, 2150 funding comes with one of the sharpest theses in European venture: cities. 2150 is a London-based venture capital firm, the venture arm of Urban Partners, investing in technology startups transforming the built environment. In January 2026 it raised a €210 million second fund, bringing total assets under management to €500 million. Founded in 2019 by Christian Hernandez, Jacob Bro, Mikkel Bülow-Lehnsby and Christian Joelck, the firm argues that since cities aggregate 80% of GDP but also 70% of emissions, the urban environment is the highest-leverage place to deploy climate capital.
Investment thesis: the "Urban Stack"
2150's thesis focuses on what it calls the "Urban Stack" — every element of the built environment, from how cities are designed, constructed and powered, to how people live, work and are cared for. Its site describes the mandate as "foundational capital to transform our physical world", backing founders building transformational technologies across energy, industry, materials and the built environment. The firm looks for research-led solutions to the greatest challenges of the urban environment, targeting double-digit ownership stakes — typically 7% to 17% — in companies delivering both strong returns and measurable real-world outcomes.
2150 funding: cheque size and fund structure
Fund II targets 20 Series A and B companies across Europe and North America, with tickets ranging from €3 million to €15 million and around half the fund reserved for follow-on investments. The second fund attracted 34 limited partners, including Chr. Augustinus Fabrikker, the Danish sovereign fund EIFO, Novo Holdings, Carbon Equity and the Viessmann Generations Group.
Notable portfolio
From Fund II, 2150 has already backed AtmosZero (industrial heat pumps, $21 million Series A), Metycle — 2150 led its €14.1 million Series A, a Cologne marketplace for sustainable metal recycling — and Mission Zero Technologies, where the firm led a £22 million Series A for direct air capture. Other portfolio names include GetMobil (e-waste recycling), Gigaton, Cocoon (cleaner concrete), LuxWall (net-zero glass), OpenSolar, Nabr and NatureMetrics. 2150 was also named a World Economic Forum Innovative Fund for Our Future.
Partners and team
Co-founders and partners Christian Hernandez and Jacob Bro lead the firm, with Mikkel Bülow-Lehnsby and Christian Joelck as co-founders. The team brings operational backgrounds in the built environment and positions its deep technical conviction — combined with a "maniacal delusion", in their words, tempered by humility — as its selection edge.
How to apply for funding
2150 is explicit that cold outreach is welcome: co-founder Jacob Bro has said publicly, "Please email us at [email protected]." The firm invests primarily at Series A and B (with occasional seed and later-stage deals), so approach with a deck that shows your technology's fit within the Urban Stack — energy, industry, materials or the built environment — and evidence of both commercial traction and measurable climate impact.
Why it matters for founders
2150 suits climate and urban-tech founders raising Series A/B whose technology touches energy, construction, materials or city infrastructure — its €500m scale, Urban Stack focus and open dealflow inbox make it the specialist fund to know before any generalist climate investor.
